Would you believe that I was a shy farm girl? Now I’m a business owner, fitness athlete and model! Wow, it is amazing where life will take you! My name is Karen (“KRG”) and welcome to my world…
I was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, a city about 1.5 hours from Toronto. I was fortunate to grow up on a beautiful 100 acre hobby farm just outside of the city where I would literally not sit still! As a “Daddy’s Little Girl”, I would always help with the daily chores and the dreaded seasonal task of bringing in the hay from the fields….not my most favorite activity I must say! I also used to spend every moment I could with my horse Kelly. I would spend hours training and riding her, I used to have so much fun with her riding in the back fields feeling free and alive!
When I was not running the 100 acres of the farm, I would spend most of my spare time at the ice rink, which was literally my second home. At the age of six, my parents signed me up for skating lessons and I absolutely loved it! I ended up pursuing figure skating for 15 years in both competitive singles and synchronized. I would spend between 25-30 hours per week training on and off ice. I even competed at two Canadian Precision Championships placing within the top three. Little did I know that this would be the catalyst, the trigger that would lead me into an amazing fitness and health career!
When I left Peterborough to go to university in Ottawa, I decided to hang up my skating boots as an amateur. With all the new adventures of living away from home, I figured that I wanted to seek out new endeavors. However, my passion for the sport and athletics was still deep in my heart and that is when I decided to coach professionally on and off the ice.
After attending school, I decided to head to Toronto (one of my favorite cities), to further pursue my career and interests. I continued to coach figure skating part time at a very prestigious International training school. That was great. As well, I was hired as a fitness coordinator at one of the popular health clubs in Toronto. That was a tremendous learning opportunity and experience. Meanwhile, I continued to train like an athlete in the gym. People certainly noticed and I decided to kick off my career as a competitive fitness athlete and model. In turn, this choice has given me the opportunity to be a model in many magazine spreads including my first cover in 2009!
With over 15 amazing years in the industry, I’m still doing what I love! I own a very successful personal training business called Fit 4 Her and Team KRG Athletes. I’m a fitness athlete and model. I specialize in body transformations and contest preparation. I’m dedicated and passionate in changing the lives of fitness enthusiasts and athletes of all ages and levels.
